Memberships

WR3A is registered as a non-profit trade association with the Vermont Secretary of State. Our Board of Directors and corporate bylaws are available here. We are a new organization, with a "start up" set of by-laws, but will be welcoming members to vote, participate, and develop the organization as we grow. The goal of the organization is to establish fair trade standards for recycling and reuse export markets, to help sellers know what the buyers can really manage, and help buyers eliminate sources who ship "toxics along for the ride".

Domestic Recyclers: This category of membership is intended for organizations in developed countries which export, or would like to export, legal and repairable items such as computer monitors overseas for reuse and refurbishment. These companies must agree to meet minimum standards, set by default in the by-laws. As the organization grows, we expect these standards to grow more sophisticated. Apply
Overseas Refurbishers: This category of membership is intended for re-manufacturers, reseller, refurbishers, and their agents purchase surplus computer equipment in the USA and sell or donate it overseas. Several of these companies have asked to join the WR3A in order to improve the quality of material they are importing. Apply
Domestic Generators (General Membership): This category of membership is intended for individuals or organizations which don't export directly abroad, but support the goals of the organization, and seek to support it. Universities, government agencies, surplus property programs, recycling coordinators, and others will be expected to recruit their own recycling service providers to meet the minimum export standards of the WR3A. All WR3A members will promise to achieve high reuse standards, to ensure that only correctly prepared, serviceable products are exported. Overseas Buyers who join the WR3A promise to buy only products they can really repair or reuse. Generators who join the WR3A promise to hold their service providers to the highest standards of export for reuse and repair. WR3A will offer mediation, verification, monitoring, freight forwarding, advice, technical assistance, and research to all members of the association, while necessarily keeping confidential any pricing information or trade secrets.

WR3A is a voluntary membership organization which is not seeking to grow based on membership fees. Any WR3A member who fails to meet the standards of conduct set by the organization will be voted out by the Executive Board, without appeal. Do not join this organization if you don't have a good domestic solution for recycling non-repairable or toxic materials like CRTs.
